Familia Parker trăieşte într-o casă de la marginea unui orăşel din Delware, aproape de pădure. Când mama celor trei copii moare după o criză provocată de o boală misterioasă, tatăl decide că responsabilităţile trebuie preluate de Iris, fiica mai mare. Bărbatul insistă că lucrurile trebuie să continue la fel, tradiţiile trebuie păstrate, ritualurile trebuie făcute. Între timp, orăşenii descoperă oase umane în apa râului şi încep să-şi pună întrebări legate de dispariţiile a 30 de oameni în ultimii 20 de ani. La autopsie, medicul descoperă că doamna Parker a avut o boală foarte rară, specifică unor triburi din Papua Noua Guinee.
